Derrick Rose on Kobe Bryant: ‘I looked up to Kobe’

Bulls on Parade correspondent, Joshua A. Vinson, caught up with Derrick Rose last night after the Bulls victory over the Denver Nuggets at the United Center. The Bulls superstar offered his thoughts on Kobe Bryant’s recent retirement announcement, the Laker’s legend’s work ethic and his experiences shared with Kobe during their time as teammates on the USA select squad among other topics. Check out the full interview with D.Rose below.

Rose’s reflective take on Kobe adapting his game from that of an athletic, explosive, talent when he first entered the league, to more of a jump shooter as his game matured, is interesting when you take into consideration that Rose himself has had to modify his own game somewhat as a result of the injuries that have plagued him in recent years.

The two former MVP’s are yet to go head to head on the hardwood this season. Their first meeting will take place on January 28 when they come face to face at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Their only other meeting of the season will occur on February 21 when the Lakers roll into Chicago for what will be Kobe’s last game ever at the United Center. Both games will no doubt also hold a special place in the heart of Bryant’s former teammate Pau Gasol.

Ticket sales for Bryant’s final game in Chicago are already fetching a higher premium since his announcement earlier this week. The game surely to be deemed a sell out, with Bulls and Lakers fans alike clamouring for one last chance to see Bryant play in the arena he “almost” called home.

Let’s just hope both Kobe and Derrick remain healthy and at least one of the contests will bring out the best of both stars.
