A few weeks ago UNICEF Ambassador Pau Gasol urged for continued support and donations for the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan (known in the Philippines as Typhoon Yolanda). One of the strongest tropical cyclones in recorded history, the typhoon devastated portions of Southeast Asia, but it was the Philippines that was hit the hardest.
Last season whilst still with the Lakers, Gasol pledged 1K for every point he scored in a November regular season game versus the Golden State Warriors. On top of his $24,000 donation, the Lakers’ donated $150,000 to the Philippine Red Cross.
Despite the continued efforts by Pau, UNICEF and humanitarian agencies in helping the children and families affected by Haiyan, much more needs to be done a year on from the disaster.
With Christmas rapidly approaching you can help a child less fortunate by opening up your wallet or Paypal account and donating to UNICEF’s appeal.
Remember every little bit helps.
